Registered: 20/08/2010   Last Update: 20/08/2010
David Barlow moved from Essex via Milton Keynes to Torquay 25 years ago and is a self-taught painter/artist/illustrator specialising in watercolour studies of elephants, apes and other wild animals and more recently, commission based portraits of horses and dogs.

He first came to recognition when exhibiting in wildlife artist, Roy Chaffin’s ‘Paint A Wildlife Subject’ between 2002/2004. He later gained a solo exhibition at Torbay Hospital’s Gallery in 2004 featuring various wildlife subjects along with local scenes and original cartoon characters, selling over half his works to help raise funds for the hospital. David has also had a solo exhibition at Chelston Gallery in Torquay.

David has also exhibited regularly at Paignton Zoo’s annual ‘Wildart’ exhibition and his current ambition is to have a painting successfully accepted and exhibited at his long-time hero, David Shepherd’s annual Wildlife Artist of the Year competition.

David welcomes commissions. Do contact him to discuss how he might be able to produce an original watercolour of your favourite animal and/or pet.

Wildlife characters feature in David's illustrated children's stories. Examples of his illustrative work and sample pages from his stories can be seen on his website. Similarly there are further examples there of David's wildlife paintings, featuring animals from the African, Asian and Australian continents.
